Afrinspire has supported disabled people in southwest Uganda since 2002, including by the funding of medical operations, orthotic shoes and appliances, education, VSO volunteer placements, conferences, and special needs education.

We have supported the work of the FPD in bring training and education to disabled people in Uganda, and have also helped with orthopaedic and administrative costs, as well as the provision of specialist equipment and resources for the disabled.

Through Afrinspire's network, the FPD have made contact with other partner organisations, including the AFRIKOBS internet cafe and Reverend Guster.

In 2008, Anne Kobusingye was elected the representative of disabled people for Kabale District.

Having built up a strong network of disabled people in towns, Anne began to push for an outreach programme (PDDO) to reach those in the mountains, and Afrinspire agreed to fund this scheme.

The needs of the disabled are considered, and disabled people are encouraged and helped to develop as individuals, while receiving support from their local group. Disabled people are equipped with resources to help them develop their livelihoods. PDDO is an outreach programme and each community group is typically between 25 and 50 people.
